WHERE
Where: is a three-venue event designed as a homogenous space.
Where: began in Tijuana at Lui Velazquez as a series of artist residencies and then traveled to Los Angeles at the Sundown Salon for a day of participatory workshops, performances and installations finally completing its journey in San Francisco at Queens Nails Annex as an installation.
The path or line made by the movement of this exhibition is less about space and the differences of physical locations, but more a distinction of time and experience. The exhibition establishes a beginning, middle and end, which converge to form a show that addresses temporality and the construction of experience through anticipation and memory.
The Sundown Salon in Los Angeles existed as the core of the show linking the other two spaces in terms of expectation and memory. The residencies at Lui Velazquez inhabited a space of anticipation, expectation and preparation. The salon in Los Angeles surrounded notions of the present an ephemeral show based on experience and phenomena. The exhibition at Queens Nails Annex will occupy the space of memory, in which the past echoes and resonates.
Where: was organized by Amy Adler with Shannon Spanhake and curated by Zerek Kempf. It is produced in collaboration with Lui Velazquez, the Sundown Salon and Queen Nails Annex. The final outcome and exhibition at Queens Nails Annex is curated by Julio Cesar Morales with Brian Storts. This exhibition is made possible by the support of the Visual Arts department at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
